We have a SMILER!!!

Over the last few days, Colbein has shown us some pretty adorable smiles that are genuine and not caused by gas or while he is asleep. He likes it when we tickle his cheek or tap on his nose while making a "beep!" sound...it's enough to make his momma melt. Just see for yourself:

Tickle, tickle...

So fun!

Happy Boy!

Hello!

Monkey Jammies with Bennett

It's so hard being 1 Month old!

One month old!

Dear Colbein,

I can hardly believe you are one month old. Other Mommys and Daddys told me this would go fast, but no one could have prepared me for how fast. You are growing so fast and we already have seen bits and pieces of your sweet little personality. We know that you don't enjoy baths, but will tolerate them, you like being snuggled close but like your arms to be free, you hate your vitamins, you like music and dancing with Mommy and Daddy and you love to eat.

When we brought you home, Mommy had so much anxiety for how you would sleep at night. It only took you 5 days to learn that night time is for sleeping, as we were so surprised when you slept for 6 hours straight when you were 8 days old! And every night since, you've been a pretty excellent sleeper. You've also taught Mommy to be more easy going as I've had to succumb to the fact that you rule the house. Priorities have changed--snuggling with you is much more important then tending to the house, which is why dust is collecting on our mantle and why I've neglected updating this blog. You definitely have reminded us of the simple joys in life; a coy smile, a pleasant walk on a sunny day, the feeling of your little hand grasping our finger.

You seem to be discovering new things every day. You have been fascinated by your hands (although, I don't think you know that you have control of them yet!), and you discovered your mobile in your crib a couple days ago and seemed to love staring at it...an event that left Mommy in tears as I often thought about what you would be like as I was making it and hoped you would love watching it turn.

You have showed us a love like none other and we are so thankful everyday that you came into our lives.

Ti amo per sempre,
Mommy

Big Sigh...(insert Jeopardy song here)

Waiting, waiting, waiting....

Had another visit to the Doctor today and there wasn't too much to report. Still dilated 1-2 cm, and 50% effaced. Things are progressing, just very very slowly. We have an ultrasound scheduled for Thursday morning to see how Peanut is doing inside (ie: if s/he is showing signs of stress, amniotic fluid levels, etc, etc) and we'll go straight to the Doctor's office after to review the results. We were told to bring our bags because if anything from the ultrasound seems off, then we'll be going straight to labor and delivery to be induced (another sigh). If baby is happy, then we will be sent home for more waiting.

I don't know which is worse. I do not want to be induced, but obviously, if that is best for baby then that is what we will do. And I certainly don't wait to wait another week. The benefit for a Thursday induction is my Doctor is on call, so she would be the one to deliver. BUT, we are really hoping that I will just go into labor on my own. Preferably within the next 65 hours....

Last Survey (hopefully!)

How far along? 40 weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: ~+36...yowza!

Maternity clothes?: Yes, I have stained many of them, since I cannot see when I spill on my belly...so they are not looking very chic.

Stretch marks?: I made it to week 38 with only a few stray stretchies, but courtesy of baby dropping, I have patches of them below my belly button. Good-bye bikini...FOREVER!

Sleep: Pretty darn good. I get up to pee about 3 times. Wish I could say the same for the Hubs, thanks to my liking the window open and my incessant snoring (which was only made worse by my cold). He now wakes up shivering, forced to listen to an orchestra of snores and snorts.

Best moment this week: Hearing from the Doctor that I am 1 cm. dilated and 50% effaced! Progress is progress!

Movement: Yes: big, rumbling movements.

Food cravings: Grape popsicles...mmm!

Gender: No idea. Hubs still thinks boy.

Labor Signs: Cramping...inconsistent though.

Belly Button in or out? Flat and ever so slightly out.

What I miss: Not feeling my belly on my thighs when I sit, margaritas, not freaking out by every little feeling inside.

What I am looking forward to: Giving birth and hopefully celebrating the Hubs' 1st Father's Day!

Weekly Wisdom: Stay busy during the last few weeks/days. Helps to not obsess!

Milestones: Made it to the due date!

Due Date!

Due date is here and no baby yet. Had a nice day and tried to stay busy...went and had lunch with Mom and Dad and then Mom and I went on a nice long walk. It's amazing how quickly the last 40 weeks have gone by and how anxious the next several days will be awaiting the big moment....

Below is another pink shirt picture along with the others to compare:

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I had to take it on my Blackberry since our camera is in the hospital bag in the Hubs' car. We are definitely at bowling ball status! :)

Baby Steps

For the many challenges in life, I find it helpful to consult one of the all-time best doctors: Dr. Leo Marvin. You might have heard of him:

Today, we had our appointment to see if Peanut has made any progress and lo and behold, it had! I am 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced! Ok, it's not huge progress, but as Dr. Marvin would say, it's about setting small, reasonable goals, so I'm happy! If Peanut makes it through the weekend, then the next check up will be on Monday, followed by an ultrasound on Thursday. If nothing happens by then, we will plan for an induction ::shudder:: sometime the week following. I would really rather not be induced. I trust my body and I just want Peanut to come when s/he is ready...but I also have planned for a June baby, not a July baby. So again, we wait...

A Sign or Just a Cruel Coincidence?

I'm thinking it's the latter. What I am referring to is my unwavering ability to have some kind of ailment for all of life's big events. College Graduation? Horrible cold. Wedding Day? Awful sinus infection. Babymoon Trip? Unbearable lower back pain. And now, just 3 days shy of my due date, I have come down with a cold. The Hubs apparently agrees, because when he came home from work today to see me on the couch with Kleenex said, "Oh no, you're sick? Well, that means the baby is coming soon!" I think it may be one big fake out. I feel exactly the same as last week, just bigger...if that is even possible.

We have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon and all day I've been fantasizing that the Doctor will check me and announce, "Today is baby's birthday! Head straight over to Labor and Delivery!" However, seeing as my water is still intact and my lack of contractions, I don't think that is going to happen. Today I finished folding Peanut's last load of laundry, cleaned the bathrooms, cleaned out the freezer and refrigerator and went to the store to restock...just in case. Let's hope for progress tomorrow!

Potpourri

This posting contains a little of this and a little of that...first off, I hope you like the face lift to the blog. I had a very strong feeling of "I HATE this background" today, so it had to be changed right away.

Second, I was hoping the baby would be born today. Not because I'm uncomfortable (I'm really not) or I'm sick of being pregnant (also not) but because today has a lot of significance for the Hubs and I. The Hubs' late Grandma & Grandpa were married on this day in 1946 and today was also the fateful day that I met my Future-Hubs, 9 years ago, at a fraternity, in a room, lovingly referred to as "The Mole Hole"...it was wonderful. Our eyes met from across the smelly, crowded room, Outkast's "Miss Jackson" playing in the background and with a couple of Keystone Lights in our hands...ahh...memories! Even the Hubs remembered our little faux-anniversary as I was surprised with beautiful red roses! Anyway, The Hubs and I thought it would be neat if our little Peanut was born to add to the significance of June 9th, but unless I begin and finish labor in the next 7 hours and 14 minutes, it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

Which segways nicely into my third update, Peanut seems to be quite happy inside. I had my 38 week appointment (just 2 days shy of 39 weeks...oh well) and Peanut has come down some and my (WARNING--Dad, I'm going to mention girly parts) cervix is getting softer (I know...ewww), but not much else is happening in there. Next check up is next Wednesday 6/16, and I went ahead and booked another appointment with the Doctor for 6/21, 3 days post due date. Things are pretty quiet here, so I think Peanut will be a bit late to the party. I've been having some very mild and random contractions and some discomfort in my lower back, but that is it. Oh, besides the fact that I feel like a bowling ball is wedged in my pelvis...besides that, all quiet on the baby eviction front. Until next week!

Peanut's Nursery!

Peanut's nursery is done, and I must say, I love it. From the start, I wanted a yellow, gray and white nursery and couldn't find anything I liked, so most everything in here was purchased seperately or designed by me. It was a great project to work on and I love just going in there and looking at everything...hopefully Peanut (and you!) will agree:

In the doorway

Probably my favorite thing: ti amo per sempre (italian translation: i love you forever), designed and ordered on etsy.

A Tight Squeeze...

Poor Peanut...

Yesterday morning I woke up to some jabs by my little one. The Hubs and I think Peanut was trying to tell me that it's getting to be a tight squeeze in there! Finally, s/he got comfortable...quite the funny angle though:

Getting close to eviction time!

For all of you "Twi-hards"....

I have a very fun job, for a very fun company. Most of the readers of this blog know where I work and what I do, so I won't elaborate for fear of Big Brother conducting some Internet search and stumbling upon this blog...but I want to post a picture of what is hung on my office door right now:Isn't Bella even more beautiful than you remember? :)

I've never seen any of the Twilight movies, but I do a lot of marketing around them...hence why it is on my office door! : ) This is my last day of working in my office. For the rest of my pregnancy, I will be working from home. It will be so nice wearing my sweats, not wearing makeup, being able to pee every 10 minutes without judgement...It's so strange to think that the next time I'm here, I'll be someone's mommy...
It's also exactly 2 weeks until Peanut's due date. I have a sneaking suspicion that Peanut is very happy where it is and will be taking his/her sweet time before making an appearance.

What a weekend!

Memorial Day weekend was absolutely packed! All fun things though...here is my best attempt to recap for my handful of readers. WARNING: This is gonna be a long one:

Friday: Took a flex day from work (meaning not at work, but available and periodically checking and responding to emails). The day started out with a massage and pedicure from a local chain...I wasn't going to name names, but what the hell, I'll say it--Inspa. It's a chain, so I wasn't planning on this being the most unique experience, but I had a gift card to burn so why not. My massage was not nearly as relaxing as others I've had for two reasons: #1-- No belly pillow to allow me to lay on my belly. So the whole massage was me laying on my sides. She did do a nice job of positioning pillows to support my hips, back, belly, etc--but it wasn't the same. And #2-- the masseuse broke what I consider to be the cardinal rule of massage--She starting talking. The only thing I want to hear when I'm getting a massage is, "is the pressure ok?, then puh-lease, just shut up! But, not only did she start talking to me all about her son, but she starting telling me that he is autistic and then about how I shouldn't vaccinate my baby. Uhh...are you kidding me?! I was shocked at how ballsy she was talking about something so political and emotional, let alone talking at all. I pretty much just ignored her, hoping she would get the message that I don't want to chat. Eventually, she did.

After my spa treatments I went shopping, trying to find some low heels to fit my enormous feet for the wedding later that weekend. Not only did I not find anything, but walking into Macys, I slipped and fell on my hands and knees. So basically, any relaxation I did get from the massage, I could just kiss goodbye as I immediately felt my body tense up again. Even more infuriating: no one, and I mean NO ONE, helped me up! In fact a guy practically stepped over me to enter the store...unbelievable. I called the Hubs in tears, that I felt some cramping and Peanut got jostled and OMG, what if I'm going into labor!?! The Hubs being the sensible person he is told me to relax and go home and everything was fine because Peanut is big and strong. He also cracked me up when he said, "you need to be careful...you are really big and clumsy now." True facts. I now have a nice reminder of my bigness and clumsiness by two lovely bruises on my knees.

It turns out, I did not go into labor and the evening was fabulous as a bunch of my wonderful friends and I saw Sex and the City 2 (rating: B+). I didn't think it was as good as the first movie, but still very entertaining and well worth a girls night out to see it.

Saturday: Had a wonderful baby shower brunch, which really was more like a baby DOWNPOUR hosted by my dear friends, the Bennett girls. It really was so nice, many of our family friends that we don't get to see much attended and Peanut and I got absolutely spoiled rotten! Sister C even flew in from San Francisco to be there! After the shower, I sped home and quickly changed my clothes, grabbed the Hubs and went to my friend Kim's wedding rehearsal and then the delicious rehearsal dinner at Cutters. Whenever I am with my girlfriends from college, we have a ball. Laughing and reminiscing about the crazy lives we used to lead...always such fun.

Sunday: Went over to my parents' house for breakfast with the fam and then the group came to our house to check out the nursery. They loved it...as if I had any doubt....and as soon as I finish up a couple of little details, I will post some photos here. We also caught up and looked at pictures from their recent trip to France and Italy...at one point I looked at the Hubs and I know we thought the same thing; It's gonna be a loooong time before we can go to Europe! Maybe for our 10 year anniversary. After the slide show, I ran upstairs to primp for our wonderful friends Kim and Greg's wedding. The wedding was beautiful and Kim looked absolutely radiant, as I knew she would. I managed to squeeze my XXL feet into some heels for the pictures and the ceremony and then quickly changed to flip flops. Being a bridesmaid at 37 weeks pregnant isn't necessarily something I would recommend to everyone, but I am so glad I did it and I truly would do it again. A black stretchy dress, big belly and swollen feet is just a small price to pay to stand by one of your closest friends as they get married and share in all of the excitement.

Monday: Monday felt like a hangover. I was so incredibly exhausted and the Hubs was too, although, we can probably attribute his to an actual hangover : ). All of the craziness caught up with me and there was no way I was doing anything. I should have done laundry, tidied up the house, finished the nursery and ran errands. Instead, I took naps, ate and watched Julie and Julia (rating: B, quite cute) in bed with the Hubs. At around 3pm, we decided to attempt to be productive and assemble our stroller. We were pleasantly surprised when all we had to do was snap on three wheels and the canopy. It took around 49 seconds and that was enough productivity for us. At around 6:30ish, we finally got up, showered and took ourselves to out to dinner.

This is my last week at the office, as I will work from home until little Peanut decides to come. We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so hopefully we'll see a bit of progress, but if there is none, that is fine too. I really am not that uncomfortable and I just want Peanut to come when s/he is ready.

37 weeks - BIRTH!

"At week 37, your pregnancy is considered full term, meaning baby is likely to thrive after birth. Baby spends these last weeks in preparation for the outside world… meaning careful refinement of the blink, suck, inhale and exhale. Meconium, which you’ll probably find in the first diaper, is accumulating in the intestines. If (okay, as) you worry about giving birth, consider what it’s like for the little one. During the journey out of your womb, baby will produce more stress hormones than any other time in life." ....we're almost ready for you, Peanut!
